Sarah is a member of the Pastel Society and part of the Federation of British Artists. She is the recipient of several awards, and has work in private collections worldwide.
We are delighted to be welcoming Sarah back to Coombe in 2027. Known for her landscapes, during this 5 day course Sarah will introduce you to her lively approach to mixed media painting – this time focusing on flowers in the landscape.
We plan to visit a Devon location that offers us beautiful floral inspiration. Here we’ll gather sketches and information with which we will return to the studio at Coombe and use this source material to produce exciting paintings. Through demonstration and individual guidance we will discover the limitless opportunities of interpretational colour and mark making whilst using soft pastel as the primary medium in a mixed media process.
All work is made on mount board using acrylic paint, gesso and soft pastel. Sarah is on hand throughout to guide your understanding of non-representational colour and layered painting.
If you are an experienced artist, some or all of the processes will blend into your own methods. Equally, as a beginner, there is much to be gained!
We hope to enjoy lovely June days, but in the event of poor weather it would be advisable to bring your own sketches and photographs of flowers in the landscape to work from. Bear in mind that these should not be of cut flower arrangements in the manner of a still life.
